Is anyone else scared to open their hydro bill lately?! I know I am!!! Our bills used to be bi-monthly, and they recently changed them to monthly, and I am pretty sure this was done so I would not cry when I got it! But seriously...
#YOURelectricalcontractor, being an electrician and all, has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to the best and newest options out there regarding all things lighting. Long before anyone really knew about compact fluorescent bulbs, we had them installed. Then came the LED lamps and we had those. I LOVE our LED lights! Especially our LED Christmas lights! I turn them on and they stay on from November well into January (yeah...we're THAT house...) The point is, when I have my LED lights on, I'm not worried :) They use so little electricity that it really doesn't matter if I turn them off or not. That being said, after this last hydro bill, I knew I had to make a change! Every little bit helps! Of course, I asked #YOURelectricalcontractor :) One of his greatest suggestions was to install the Caseta dimmers by Lutron. These dimmers are FANTASTIC! I can set it up so that my LED lamps, which already use very little energy, only come on to say 40%, thus using even less energy and I still get a ton of light! Then, we installed the Lutron app on our smartphones! Well! Let me tell you! My lazy self has never been so happy!!! If I leave a room and forget to turn a light off, I can just turn it off with one click from my phone :) *sigh A lazy girl's dream :) :) :) I can also set it up so that when I leave the house, all the lights I program will shut off! A forgetful girl's dream!
Not only am I sometimes lazy, and often forgetful, I'm usually FREEZING!!! And then, in 10 minutes, I'm roasting!!! Using this app I can control my thermostat from my phone! *Angels singing This is going to save me a ton of energy and money, well, because currently when I crank the heat to get warm, I get all comfy with my blankets and my Netflix, then realize I'm way too hot. Then what do I do??? I just sit and complain about it instead of actually getting up, going back downstairs to the thermostat and turning the furnace back down and saving energy...yeah, I'm that girl...With this app, I stay comfy with my Netflix, (yeah, I know it comes with a pause feature but I've totally misplaced the remote by this time!) and I can just turn the furnace back down and save some energy so it doesn't hurt so much when I crank it up again in 20 minutes :P
Here's to saving energy and money and not leaving the furnace running at full tilt all winter ;)
Til next time ;)
